CEDAR RAPIDS
Friday, July 6, 2007
Linn County Courthouse
On Friday, July 6, 9:00 a.m., the eleven people who were arrested in Cedar Rapids in
February will be sentenced in the Linn County Courthouse.
The Occupation Project commences immediately following sentencing. After a brief
rally, peacemakers willing to risk arrest and their supporters will nonviolently occupy the
Cedar Rapids offices of both Senators Charles Grassley (R-IA) and Tom Harkin (D-IA).
In the interests of communication, dialogue, and negotiation, the Iowa Occupation
Project has contacted the offices of both Senators regarding this direct action. We have
given them a deadline of July 4th to publicly pledge to de-fund the war, or face an
occupation.
Friday Schedule
The Schedule for the day is as follows. Please be flexible as circumstances
beyond anyone's control may change things.
9 a.m. - Sentencing of the CR 11 at 9 a.m. at the Linn Co. Court House in Cedar Rapids.
Noon - Lunch
1 p.m. to 1: 30 p.m. - Support Rally and Send Off To Grassley and Harkin's CR Offices.
Place: The Tree of the Five Seasons, 1St Ave and 1st St NE in down town
Cedar Rapids, IA
Rally Co-Sponsors: The Iowa Occupation Project, Women for Peace Iowa, the
Linn County Green Party, Iowans For Peace, Des Moines based Catholic Peace
Ministry, Des Moines Catholic Worker, Iowa Peace Network, School For Moral
Courage in Iowa City, University of Iowa Anti-war Committee and the UNI Campus
Antiwar Network.
1:30pm to -? Immediately after rally. Dual visits of Senators Grassley and Harkin's
CR Offices demanding no more funding of the Iraq War. Both Grassley and Harkin's CR
Offuces are a couple of blocks from the Rally site. We want to visit both Iowa Senators
offices in Cedar Rapids since both recently voted for the continued funding of war with
out an exit plan. We expect these visitations may last until the end of the work day and
lead to possible arrest for some.
Anyone who is considering risking arrest MUST attend the nonviolence training
session the night before in Iowa City.

Q: Why sit-in at Grassley and Harkin's office? A: The occupations are a political
consequence for the senators' pro-war votes last May when they gave Bush a blank
check to continue the war. The Iowa Occupation Project is demanding that the
senators publicly pledge to de-fund the war the next time and each time a vote comes to
the floor.
