code in the space in the left column and go from there. This is also an excellent resource
for tracking legislation.
War Legislation
- The American Friends Service Committee tracks legislation specifically about the war
here. AFSC also has several convenient petitions to sign in opposition to the war and for
other social justice concerns. The AFSC home page is here.
Military Families Speak Out
- MFSO has a great resource for talking points for asking congress to defund the war
here. This is also a great resource for those with loved ones in the military. Their home

Bill of Rights Defense Committee
- A fantastic organization that takes on the Patriot Act and more. Read about them here.
National Peace and Social Justice Resources
- United for Peace and Justice has been the principle organizer for the national
Marches on Washington.
Declaration of Peace Campaign is a national initiative to defund the war.
Voices for Creative Non-Violence advocates and teaches non-violent protest and
civil disobedience. VCNV is also the sponsor of The Occupation Project.
Peace Majority is another excellent national group.
- A.N.S.W.E.R. (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism) is another national action
campaign and is the principle sponsor of the March on the Pentagon.
- The Sunlight Foundation is another excellent resource that tracks exactly what your
representatives are doing and why they're doing it.
Middle East Awareness Project is also known as the Congressional
Accompaniment Project (CAP) is a travel program by which Americans, concerned for a
just peace in Israel/Palestine, can assist their Congressional representatives and/or their
foreign policy Aides to be more informed regarding the “facts on the ground” in
Israel/Palestine. Information about involvement can be found here.
State of Iowa Resources
Iowans for Sensible Priorities is the group founded by the Ben and Jerry's guy,
another great resource.
- The Cost of the War in Iowa. This is report prepared by the National Priorities
Project of what Iowa is spending on the war.
- Des Moines Catholic Worker Community Home of legendary activist, Frank
Cordaro. Excellent essays on war are here.
- Progressive Coalition of Central Iowa is a hearty bunch who are trying to organize
people on the state in a nonpartisan way about peace and social justice.
- American Friends Service Committee has its Central Region Office in Des Moines.
